A Cat in Hell´s Chance
Ni yendo a bailar a Chalma / Ni vuelto a nacer
Meaning:
Not to have even the slightest chance to succeed in a certain activity or pursuit.
Origin:
lf a cat, which is supposed to have nine lives, can´t stand a chance of succeeding in attaining a certain goal or pursuit. Just imagine what the chances are for poor human beings who only have one life to take good use of. In this case, the word hell is just a word which denotes a negative emphasis expressing the frustration the speaker feels at the moment.
Example:
•Tomorrow is my Mathematics final test. It will all be about calculus and I do not understand a single thing about it. I am sure I will miserably fail in it. I don´t stand any chance of passing it. In fact, I don´t have a cat in hell´s chance of getting a pass.
